The World Malaria Report 2011 summarizes information received from 106 malaria-endemic countries and a range of other sources. This year's report builds primarily on data received from countries for the year 2010. The report shows clear progress in the fight against malaria and a decline in estimated malaria cases and deaths. For the first time, the report contains individual profiles for 99 countries with ongoing malaria transmission

The World Malaria Report 2010 summarizes information received from 106 malaria-endemic countries and other sources and updates the analyses presented in the 2009 Report. It highlights continued progress made towards meeting the World Health Assembly (WHA) targets for malaria to be achieved by the end of 2010 and by 2015.

The report outlines the evolving situation of financing for malaria control, how these growing resources have resulted in increased coverage of WHO-recommended malaria control interventions, and the association between this rapid scale-up and substantial reductions in malaria burden.

Half of the world's population is at risk of malaria, and an estimated 243 million cases led to nearly 863 000 deaths in 2008. The advent of long-lasting insecticidal nets and artemisinin-based combination therapy, plus a revival of support for indoor residual spraying of insecticide, presents a new opportunity for large-scale malaria control. The World malaria report 2009 describes the global distribution of cases and deaths, how WHO-recommended control strategies have been adopted and implemented in endemic countries, sources of funding for malaria control, and recent evidence that prevention and treatment can alleviate the burden of disease.
